Service Projects The future of Garden Railroading The advent of a major retailer closing operations in Las Vegas, and the uncertain fate of the company that put G-scale in the home poses questions as to the future of the hobby.  One retailer has told me he expects it to collapse.   Some manufacturers are betting on the future being the higher end and more profitable mining and lumber narrow gauge in 1:20.3  Suppliers of this gauge  are segregating themselves into a new scale.  They are calling it "F scale".   For more details on this shift, see the NMRA at   http://www.nmra.org/standards/sandrp/pdf/LargeScalesv1- 5.pdf We would all like to see  suppliers and supporting businesses to the hobby continue successfully.  So, we have to ask what we can do to support it.  My thought is  promoting the hobby through continued support of the modules.  Attracting more people to the hobby is a start.  Open house tours might also be desirable exposure.  Perhaps members can submit other thoughts on how to revive G Scale.
